Soymilk to your daily routine.
For years now, soy has been promoted as a weapon against breast and colon cancers. Recently, research has begun to show that soy is also effective in preventing prostate cancer as well.
Studies conducted at Loma Linda University and the University of California at Davis both indicate that soy, consumed on a regular daily basis, can reduce the incidence and slow down the progress of prostate cancer. This is good news for the estimated 220,000 men who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year.
The American Cancer Society reports that in 2003, an estimated 40,000 will die of the disease. Scientific evidence has shown that the isoflavones in soy have a positive effect by inhibiting the growth of new cancer cells, and by causing the dying off of existing cancer cells. According to one study, just one serving of soy a day-as a food like tofu or tempeh, or as a beverage like soymilk-may reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by as much as 70%.
